Blogging A to Z

Well since many of you have been reading(to some extent force fed through emails) whatever I post out here.Today I decided to post a little bit of knowhow session about the mindless babbles AKA blog.
What is a Blog?

A blog (a blend of the term web log) is a type of website or part of a website. Blogs are usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. Blog can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog.

Most blogs are interactive, allowing visitors to leave comments and even message each other via widgets on the blogs and it is this interactivity that distinguishes them from other static websites.

Many blogs provide commentary or news on a particular subject; others function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, Web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability of readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs. Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on art (art blog), photographs (photoblog), videos (video blogging), music (MP3 blog), and audio (podcasting). Microblogging is another type of blogging, featuring very short posts.

As of 16 February 2011 (2011 -02-16), there were over 156 million public blogs in existence.
                                                                                                                                                     From Wikipedia

He he..aint wikipedia has answers for everything.I wonder a day might come when Wikipedia may as well replace classroom text books.
But more on a personal and Informal Description

Class A:The Intellectual types(AKA Aatel)

A Blog is a place where you can express yourself.Does it really matters?Yes.In today's world you might find yourself stuck with some fragments of thoughts and imagination which you might forget the next day,and thus marks the death of a dream. In a more realistic approach the blog gives you freedom to express without worrying about the handwriting and distribution of the article. If  you are into creativity then a blog is a must for you to express it..much better than the facebook postings which never contains personalizations....

Class B:The Average Human(No couldnt find a name yet..)
However what if you are not much of a writer but you do love to read and have the machine of imagination running in free times. Then also the blog is the best place you can be.Simply by reading various blogs you will get the fuel for your mind.As you can can understand simply by looking at the numbers..you will find what you are looking for..otherwise start a new one.

Class C:The office goers(Private Sector Job holders)
Okay. Now comes the third and most dangerous category of homo-sapiens.People who dont feel or never gets enough time to read or write or even be social coz they never get enough time from work,family...etc etc.Cant say the exact figure but roughly around 75% of the population has been slaves of  the stupid box(TV anyone?)or have made an intelligent box very stupid(Gosh they have made an idiot out of that computer..)Now a days 3 out of 4 average person has an access to computer and internet and any guess how they choose to spend the energy? Selecting Like and Comment in Facebook..playing games which was originally meant to be a refresher but soon became an addiction because if you dont your crops will wither..your cooked food will rot...WOW and that is truelly a social stuff. No offence but I also do social network but also have kept the idea of reading and writing a habit.Comming back to the point..Wake Up Sid..Wake up..there is much happening and get in touch.....

Enough........God....Huh........I will write another blog about this...Read along various blogs and topics to get an idea about the blogs.

Check this out

Here is a list of blogs that are mostly indian in origin.....

How can I get a Free/Paid Blog ?

The best source for the beginners as I would say is Blogger. It offers all the basic functionality and ease of usage and even customizable themes,Heck its even free and lets you write lots and lots(virtually unlimited blogs with pics).Once you log in to the site with your google username and password.Just click on post and the editor opens up...you type your words..(as
I  do with my babblings)..and click on publish and voila it gets published.

One more interesting feature for blogger is that you can even add list of email recipients automatically(the way I have done) who will receive post once you publish.

Alternatively you can try at wordpress or even in that case Windows Live Blog(lets you publish anything just by selecting the content and right clicking-->Publish to windows live blog.IE  7 onwards)...Do some research and decide based on your choice.

Wanna Get a Paid Blog?

  1. Buy a Domain and web hosting plan with PHP and SQL support(You have to Install wordpress into it)
  2. Publish
The main challenge is the buying part as still as of now can still go upto around 10,000 for 10 years and obviously you dont want to dump the domain just after 10 years. So they will charge you astounding amout just to keep the same name.Dats the strategy.

Themes and Art of Publishing

Blog is not a notepad or a wordpad.Sometimes while posting the choice of colors or themes becomes as much important as the content.Lets talk a bit in management terms(I didnt know this until yesterday when I read this in my cousin's blog..a must read):

P: Product:Your blog with nicely designed themes and templates with suiting colors to the theme of the blog

P: Place: Select a site/location where it can handle the bandwidth(Simply stick with blogger for the time being)

P: Price: Free and it definitely guarantees satisfaction either by reading or writing

P: Promotion:Promote or Publish it via facebook mails.your personal emails, let other know by the word of mouth

P: Process: As simple as it takes a bit common sense(True. The publish part is really simple as it can be)

P: People:If your blog catches the mind of the readers. It will spead like fire. But regardless treat the comments as a scope for improvement or good remark.Never think of criticism even if the comment criticises you

P: Physical Evidence: Umm its a little hard to give physical evidence of a internet blog..but heck you can post picture snaps taken by you to give a touch of physical and reality stuff.

Use photos and illustrations to enhance the blogging experience.Even a smiley can make a differene.Take a look at this sample Java Book chapter. This was supposed to be a nerd's book. But they have made it funny.

Oh and one more thing about pictures. If you are taking a picture from any other site.Do put a credit for them as a coutsey.Read the advice disclaimer policy for a better understanding.

Few Tips to stay updated with the Blog..

Publish

Ask the blogger to send you a email after publishing.Depends on the blogger.

RSS feed/Atom Feed

A web feed (or news feed) is a data format used for providing users with frequently updated content. Content distributors syndicate a web feed, thereby allowing users to subscribe to it. Making a collection of web feeds accessible in one spot is known as aggregation, which is performed by an aggregator. A web feed is also sometimes referred to as a syndicated feed.

Benifits
          Google Feedburner

FeedBurner email is a service that allows publishers to deliver their feed content to subscribers via email.
FeedBurner sends subscribers a daily digest of new content from your blog, so a new post, new title, link, or change to the published date will trigger the email delivery. If you do not post anything that day, no email is sent out.
FeedBurner only keeps a change history for items currently listed in the feed. Once they “drop off the bottom” of the feed, the system forgets about them completely. If you re-introduced them later by increasing the number of items your feed contains, this will result in the newly included items being delivered via email as “new” content.

That covers about almost everything about blogs. For further query drop a mail to me and I will surely answer. And Dont forget "Publish for your comfort and happyness not for the readers. If they like it they will read it"

Not Related but the choice of  Browser

This is not realted to blogging but a good broser makes the task easier to do.For example I prefer Internet Explorer 8 or in that case Google chrome or even Mozilla Firefox. You can even try the indian made browser  EPIC.Download the new ones if you havent used them yet.Believe me it will make a difference.

Web feeds have some advantages compared to receiving frequently published content via an email:
  • Users do not disclose their email address when subscribing to a feed and so are not increasing their exposure to threats associated with email: spam, viruses, phishing, and identity theft.
  • Users do not have to send an unsubscribe request to stop receiving news. They simply remove the feed from their aggregator.
  • The feed items are automatically sorted in that each feed URL has its own sets of entries (unlike an email box where messages must be sorted by user-defined rules and pattern matching).
A Feed Reader is required for using web feeds. This tool works like an automated e-mail program, but no e-mail address is needed. The user subscribes to a particular web feed and thereafter receives updated content each time updating takes place. Feed Readers may be online (like a web-mail account) or offline. Recently a number of mobile readers have arrived on the market. An offline web feed is downloaded to the user's system. Feed readers are used in personalized home page services like i Google, My Yahoo, and My MSN to put content such as news, weather, and stock quotes on the user’s personal page. Content from other sites can also be added to that personalized page using feeds. \. A number of e-mail clients can also handle feeds like Outlook 2007 and Thunderbird. Opera, Safari, Firefox, Internet Explorer 7.0, and many other web browsers allow receipt of feeds from the tool bar using Live Bookmarks, Favorites, and other techniques to integrate feed reading into a browser..
